LUCAS PINO  woodwinds

Since his arrival in New York City (born in Phoenix, AZ), he has rapidly evolved into one of today’s distinct young voices on the saxophone. Composer-leader of the No Net Nonet, his professional collaborations with cutting-edge young musicians including guitarist Rafal Sarnecki, Jeremy Siskind and Ben Van Gelder have showcased his virtuosity and a dynamic melodic and harmonic vocabulary. Lucas received his B.A. at New School Jazz after transferring from the esteemed Brubeck Institute in California. It was at New School where faculty member Richard Boukas first took notice of Pino's keen improvisational skills. In 2011, he completed his M.A. at Juilliard, and in 2012 was guest performer on Boukas's música mineira project The Year of Brazil / Ernesto Nazareth 150th Birthday Tribute concert at Queens College was his premiere performance with Quarteto Moderno. MAURÍCIO ZOTTARELLI  drums and percussion

He has been on the forefront of Brazilian, Latin and jazz music scenes for over fifteen years. Born in Rio Claro (São Paulo state), his sideman credits read like a Who's Who of contemporary Brazilian music: Eliane Elias, Ivan Lins, Toninho Horta, Jovino Santos Neto, Filó Machado, Rosa Passos, Dom Salvador ; U.S. artists Marc Johnson, Esperanza Spalding, Geoffrey Keezer, Chuck Loeb; and Cameroon bassist-vocalist Richard Bona. His first acclaimed CD as composer and leader, "7 Lives" (2009) was followed by MOZIK with pianist Gilson Schachnik. His many workshops in Brazil and the USA include the Brazil Camp in California, and he is a regular columnist for Modern Drummer Magazine in Brazil.
