RICHARD BOUKAS been leading contemporary Brazilian music and jazz ensembles for forty-five years: duos, trios and quartets featuring both his original compositions and arrangements of legendary composers from the Brazilian Songbook, Choro, Samba and other genres.
Performances include notable concert venues, festivals and cultural centers and educational institutions.
• Diálogos Duo was formed in 2016 to present Richard Boukas' contemporary BRAZILIAN works for clarinet (bass clarinet) and guitar. Featuring virtuoso French-born clarinetist Louis Arques, the Duo has released two CDs. Their original repertoire is comprised of 87 movements (8 suites), the largest body of contemporary Brazilian music written for clarinet and guitar worldwide. The Duo is currently celebrating five years as an ensemble.
• Quarteto Moderno was formed in 2008, the ensemble features the brilliant woodwind virtuoso Lucas Pino and an itinerant rhythm section: bassist Gustavo Amarante and drummer Maurício Zottarelli. Boukas's compositions traverse all major Brazilian genres including samba, choro, baião, marcha, frevo, maracatu and guarânia.
• Trio Brasiliero originated in the early 1990's, featuring the elite Brazilian bassists and drummers in the New York area. Richard is joined by Quarteto Moderno bassist Gustavo Amarante and drummer Maurício Zottarelli. Their repertoire consists of original compositions and fresh interpretations from the Brazilian Songbook: Jobim, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, Sérgio Santos and legendary guitarists: Luiz Bonfá, Baden Powell, Guinga, Rafael Rabello.
• Duo Brasileiro features Richard Boukas and bassist Gustavo Amarante. Their repertoire is similar to Trio Brasileiro and they perform in more intimate venues.
