Wendy Law - Richard Boukas Duo

WENDY LAW and RICHARD BOUKAS

The Duo of cellist Wendy Law and guitarist Richard Boukas is an exciting new chamber music ensemble which synergizes vital Brazilian genres with Classical and Jazz idioms. The unique compatibility between cello and acoustic guitar in this cross-disciplinary context offers a wide creative scope for Boukas as composer/arranger, while showcasing Ms. Law’s virtuosity and affinity for Latin American-based repertoire. Boukas's vocals on certain pieces add a third thematic voice to the Duo and offer broader textural possibilities.

Some of the original compositions were written initially for violoncello and guitar, while others (including pieces for the acclaimed Brazilian Jazz ensemble Quarteto Moderno) were adapted. Some pieces include Boukas vocals as a second thematic voice. Their programs include also music for violoncello solo (hear recording of Choro Branco below, track 9), and duo interpretations of Brazilian composers including Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Guinga and Radamés Gnattali.

The Duo presented its debut concert at The New School, where Boukas is longtime educator and artist faculty.
