Called "The Champion in dedication to master Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal, this 2011 work premiered by PUBLIQuartet has already received high acclaim from numerous string quartets and chamber music enthusiasts. It is far less tonal than most of Boukas's other chamber works, which show strong Brazilian influences. The second movement, Expansão, (Expansion) is loosely based on the southern Brazilian dance form known as guarânia. Visit the Chamber music subpage under Compositions to hear the entire quartet.
